Off-Panel Monkey-Business

I'm currently reading the Superman Family DC Showcase:

You can probably expect more of these.

And I should apologize now.

Oh my God! I have no idea what is going on, but still the subtext...is so fascinating! Is that a ROPE that Superman is putting into the closet?

Heh heh. This is even kinkier than old Wonder Woman books.

Those panels are from two different stories, but that second one just stuck with me after I read it and was too good to pass up on for the joke, after I read that first one.

The second panel in "actuality:" Jimmy thinks he has super-powers (hence the costume), Superman knows he doesn't, and in order to keep him from hurting himself, he super-blows some dust in Jimmy's eyes, which makes him sleepy, then gets a rope from Jimmy's souvenier closet (don't ask) and ties him to the couch.

And that's not even close to the most unnerving thing that happens in that story.

Blowing dust in your eyes puts you to sleep? Who knew? AND Superman is "into" bondage.

There is nothing in modern comics that are quite as strange as silver age goodness...no matter HOW much Frank Miller tries.
